How to Choose an Eye Supplement

Start with the reason you are considering a supplement, then work backward from evidence rather than forward from a product's ingredient list.

  1. Define the goal. General nutrition and condition-specific supplementation are different.
  2. Read exact doses. “Contains lutein” tells you less than a disclosed amount.
  3. Match studies to the formula. Ingredient studies do not automatically validate a finished blend.
  4. Check the population. Evidence in people with AMD does not automatically apply to healthy adults.
  5. Watch for cure language. Supplements are not substitutes for diagnosis or treatment.
  6. Check interactions and contraindications.
  7. Re-check current price and terms at checkout.
