Lutein & Zeaxanthin for Eye Health
Lutein and zeaxanthin are carotenoids concentrated in the macula. They are also components of the AREDS2 formulation, but AREDS2 findings should be interpreted in the population actually studied.
What AREDS2 tells us
The National Eye Institute reports that AREDS2-type supplementation can help slow progression in certain people with intermediate or late AMD. It is not evidence that every healthy person needs an eye supplement.
Food and supplements are different questions
Dietary sources and concentrated supplements should not be treated as interchangeable. If your interest is product selection, see our supplement checklist.
